Martinique representative: France violates constitutional rights

France has undertaken to accept the "mandatory" nature of the human rights conventions it has joined. The Constitution is the supreme legal "norm" in France. However, this state violates rights in Martinique in contrast to the conventions and its own constitution.

Report informs that Arnaud Ingargiola, a member of the Board of Directors of Martinique Justice Collective made these statements during a press conference dedicated to the presentation of the Report on Human Rights Violations in French Overseas Territories prepared by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG).

Ingargiola noted that the French executive authority, administrative bodies, and judicial authorities refuse to respect human rights in Martinique.

“French dominance manifests itself more severely in Martinique. France grossly violates Article 1 of the European Convention on Human Rights there. The government, administrative and judicial bodies violate the rule of law and trample human rights, ignoring the legitimate protests of the people. The human rights conventions ratified by official Paris are not being followed. In Martinique, individuals as well as legal entities are persecuted, become victims of false procedures, and are arrested and punished when they demand protection of the rule of law and human rights."
