The President of Latvia, Egils Levits, visited the Icherisheher, Inner City, a historic core of Azerbaijan's capital Baku, Report informs, citing AZERTAC.
The Latvian President first viewed the Maiden Tower, built in the 7th-6th centuries BC and restored in the 12th century. He was informed about the Tower, 28m in height and 16-16.5m in diameter, which is comprised of a cylinder-like real tower and a huge supporting construction.
President Egils Levits was informed about Icherisheher State Historical and Architectural Reserve, which was classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, as well as landscaping and restoration work carried out there.
The Latvian President also familiarized himself with Icherisheher Centre for Traditional Arts. A commemorative gift was presented to the distinguished guest here.
The visit made a deep impression on the Latvian President.
