Journalist: Netherlands does not respect values and culture of Bonaire

"We were not raised with the values of normalizing same-sex marriages. Our norms, values, and culture should be respected, but unfortunately, they are not," said Albertico Janga, the chief editor at Radio Vision FM 97.1 in Bonaire, told a conference titled "Bonaire's Pathway from Baku through UN General Assembly to Self-Determination," jointly organized by BIG and the Bonaire Movement for Human Rights and Change, Report informs.

Janga highlighted the issue of income tax on the island, stating: "One of the things I want to emphasize here today is the income tax on our island. The income tax is collected by the Dutch government, and we pay the tax to that government. The Dutch Minister of Finance never reports to the Bonaire state bodies."

He also pointed out problems related to dental services. "We used to have access to free dental services, but when the Dutch administration learned about this, they deprived us of this right as well. They took over our healthcare system," Janga explained. "We also had free eye exams every two years, but now it has been changed to once every three years."

Furthermore, Janga noted that patients cannot obtain guarantees from their doctors regarding childbirth, highlighting the challenges faced in the healthcare system.
