Jordanian senator: People with disabilities should be active participants in society

People with disabilities should be fully integrated into society, a member of the Jordanian Senate, Chairperson of the Senate Committee for Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Asia Abdel Mutaleb Yaghi, said at a panel discussion within the founding conference of the Global South NGO Platform in Baku, Report informs.

"An integrated society is the best place to live. In Jordan, we have long fought for laws protecting the rights of people with special needs to begin to work in practice. I am convinced that people with disabilities should be at the forefront of the development of all societies," the senator emphasized.

According to her, for effective integration it is necessary to establish close cooperation with government structures and intensify educational work, especially among women and children.

"We need to develop various forms of communication with people with disabilities, introduce innovative technologies and ensure their participation in social projects," Asia Abdel Mutaleb Yaghi added.

She also noted the importance of allocating financial resources for the implementation of adaptation programs and support for people in need of special attention.
