With its decision dated November 17, 2023, the International Court of Justice rejected seven out of ten claims of Armenia against Azerbaijan.
Report informs that the Court’s ruling has reconfirmed Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over Karabakh and its territorial integrity.
The Court has also rejected the baseless and ludicrous request on withdrawal of all military and law-enforcement personnel by Azerbaijan from its Karabakh region.
The measures indicated by the Court acknowledge the already declared policy of the Government of Azerbaijan with respect to the Armenian residents of Karabakh. This includes Azerbaijan's undertaking to ensure all residents’ safety and security, regardless of national or ethnic origin.
The Court ordered no measure related to the request by Armenia to facilitate the UN agencies access to the Karabakh region and cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The Court's rejection of Armenia's claims regarding cultural monuments and artefacts is a confirmation of the positive measures implemented by Azerbaijan.
The Court equally did not warrant Armenia’s request related Azerbaijan’s investigative actions with regard to persons associated with the illegal separatist regime.
The Court did not confirm the violation of Azerbaijan's obligations under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD), thereby, rejecting Armenia’s claim in this regard.
