Human rights activist: Bonaire oppressed by Netherlands for 400 years

Bonaire is proud to be supported by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), Davika Jasmine Bissesar, president of the Bonaire Human Rights Society, told journalists, according to Report.

""Compared to your country, our population is very small. We are proud that the Baku Initiative Group will support us, we can work together and share our information," she said.

"No one in this part of the world has heard about Bonaire Island, but now they do, so we understand the importance of the event organized jointly with BIG,” she noted.

Bissesar emphasized that Bonaire has been a Dutch colony for 400 years and has faced oppression:

“For 400 years, we have endured oppression under Dutch rule. Now, we aim to work constructively with the Baku Initiative Group to focus on our future, rather than thinking about how colonial the reactions of colonial powers in the region.”
