Hikmat Hajiyev: Armenian PM resorts to lies regarding Minsk Group dissolution

Armenia's Prime Minister has once again resorted to lies and distortions in his comments regarding the dissolution of the Minsk Group, said Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, Report informs via AZERTAC.

Hajiyev stated: "The time for the dissolution of the Minsk Group is long overdue, and there is no need for such an institution." He added that Armenia's attempts to keep this institution on the agenda and continue its efforts in this direction indicate that Yerevan is trying to create the impression that the conflict is not over, in order to maintain a certain means of influence with its supporters in the West.

Touching upon Pashinyan's comments comparing the constitutions of Armenia and Azerbaijan, the presidential aide noted: "The Armenian constitution still contains a clause on territorial claims against Azerbaijan, the annexation of Karabakh to Armenia, in accordance with the act on independence."

Hajiyev emphasized that until that clause is amended, serious problems are foreseen in reaching a peace agreement between the two states. He stated, "Armenian society itself must amend the constitution, removing that clause and reference, once again affirming its desire to live in peace. However, the Azerbaijani Constitution does not contain territorial claims against any state, and this reflects the rightful will of the Azerbaijani people. We consider this comparison to be mere wordplay."

In conclusion, Hajiyev suggested the Armenian Prime Minister take steps towards advancing the real peace agenda and supporting it with the participation of regional states, rather than engaging in such wordplay.
