We continue to develop strong bilateral relations between our two countries and cooperate through NATO and multinational operations. Relations between Azerbaijan and the UK have evolved during most of the late 19th and early of the 20th century. Azerbaijan was a part of the Russian Empire at that time. In this context, the beginning of the 20th century is marked by 60 million rubles investment of English companies to the oil enterprises in Baku. In 1904, Baku satisfied England's 74 percent of requirements for petrol.
Great Britain opened the embassy in Azerbaijan in 1992, while the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in London opened in 1994. Both countries are members of the Council of Europe, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
