Report's chief: Pashinyan wants to speed up signing of peace treaty with Azerbaijan

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wants to speed up the signing of the peace treaty with Azerbaijan, amid the recent protests in Yerevan, Director of Report Information Agency Fuad Huseynaliyev said on ARB24 TV.

According to him, with the message "the Armenian government can resign only if the people want it" Pashinyan means that the protestors are not the majority of the people.

“The majority still supports Pashinyan's government and does not want him to leave power. It can be seen from social networks that Pashinyan has many supporters. Pashinyan wants to say that he is aware of the resignation calls, but he does not pay attention to them. He notes that even when he was in the parliament, the opposition representatives did not call him to resign. In other words, he says that the parliament, including the opposition MPs, doesn’t want him to resign. The rest isn’t interesting for him. That is, they no longer represent the Armenian society. Perhaps Pashinyan is referring to the elections, but the elections are still a long way off.”

Huseynaliyev noted that if a peace agreement is signed with Azerbaijan and communication lines are opened soon, the protestors will have no reason to protest.

“If the peace agreement is concluded, it will be supported by all power centers, including the United States, Europe and Russia. I do not believe that any power center in the world would not support this step. After peace is achieved with Azerbaijan, Armenia's relations with Türkiye will soon improve. Hence, new economic windows will be opened for Armenian society.”
