Fuad Huseynaliyev: It was separatists who forced Armenians of Karabakh to flee the region

Azerbaijan is ready to provide Karabakh Armenians with the same rights as the rest of the country's population, Director of the Report News Agency Fuad Huseynaliyev said on the air of the Ukrainian Daily Europe Online.

"However, after the anti-terrorist measures of September 19-20, many of them, despite the absence of immediate danger to their lives and safety, decided to leave under pressure from threats and intimidation from representatives of the separatist regime," he said.

Huseynaliyev noted that the separatists intimidated the Armenians of Karabakh saying that they would not be able to live in Azerbaijan, that they are under threat of reprisals and destruction, although nothing of the kind happened in reality.

Report's director also noted that, despite numerous calls and threats from separatist leaders, many Armenians still decided not to leave Karabakh.

"There is footage, in fact, a lot of footage, when Azerbaijani border guards and police officers provided the leaving Armenians with water and food, because there was a multi-kilometer traffic jam there [on the road from Khankandi to Armenia]. The road could not accommodate such a number of people leaving in a short period. But the free exit of absolutely everyone was ensured... only a few separatist leaders were detained," he said.

Huseynaliyev emphasized that throughout the Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijan faced pressure on many international platforms, and the latest PACE resolution on depriving the Azerbaijani delegation of voting rights became the pinnacle of cynicism.

"The resolution itself also notes several points regarding the situation with human rights. It is also alleged that Azerbaijan forcibly expelled the Armenians living in the Karabakh region from its territory. Although absolutely nothing of the kind happened. During local anti-terrorist measures in September 2023, Azerbaijan ensured full sovereignty over its territory," he noted.

According to Report's director, no third party could ensure the rapprochment between the Azerbaijani and Armenian communities to resolve this conflict and the opportunity to sit down at the negotiating table in order to ensure stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus region.
