Fuad Huseynaliyev: If Armenia wants peace, Azerbaijan made the most acceptable proposal yesterday

Yesterday, Azerbaijan offered Armenia to choose a mutually acceptable venue or to make a decision on meeting at the state border. If Yerevan wants peace, this is the best proposal, Fuad Huseynaliyev, the Director of the Report Information Agency, told the ARB 24 television channel, Report informs.

According to him, not the essence, but the location of the negotiations is important for Armenia at the moment: “After the biased position of the US against us, it is clear that the Washington platform has collapsed. Azerbaijan will not go to any negotiations in the United States. We see the bias in Europe, mainly France, these days. For this reason, the Brussels format is actually in question. It is known that the official Yerevan avoids the platforms offered by Russia in recent times. That's why the Moscow talks are not possible, either.”

The director of the agency believes that after the signing of the peace agreement between the two countries, Yerevan has no chance to avoid this obligation. He noted that if the two countries sign a peace agreement, it will be reported to international platforms—the United Nations, the European Union, and other power centers: “Besides, the document must be ratified in the parliaments of both countries. Therefore, there is no need for another country to play a guarantor role in the peace agreement.”

Huseynaliyev said that the parties are already trying to solve every issue within the framework of the peace agreement: “One of the problematic points for us is that 7 villages of Gazakh and 1 village of Nakhchivan are still under occupation. In my opinion, the parties are trying to resolve these issues peacefully. Therefore, some common issues need to be negotiated. Maybe the parties are working on another format for this.”

According to him, the peace agreement can be signed as a framework document: “It seems to me that the issue of delimitation will not be reflected in the peace agreement because this process takes a lot of time. To start this, it is important to sign the peace document. According to the Almaty Declaration of 1991, the territory of Azerbaijan is 86,600 square kilometers, and Armenia’s territory is 29,800 square kilometers. According to some reports, even during the USSR, the issue of border delimitation between the two republics was not fully resolved. In any case, the whole case should be resolved with the participation of experts from both sides, and the new border should be defined.”

The director of the agency also emphasized that there is no harm to Azerbaijan in bringing up the document in the US Senate that prohibits the president from issuing the waiver of Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act: "Currently, they are taking away the right of the head of the country to issue the waiver of Section 907. I don't think that Washington can impose any sanctions against us today. It should be noted that Azerbaijan is a very important country in the region. The only issue is the resolution S.3000 passed by the Senate regarding Section 907. It has not come into force yet. At the moment, it doesn't affect us at all.”
