Mutual recognition and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity by states is the only path to sustainable peace, stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said at a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Eastern Partnership countries in Brussels, Report informs.
With regard to the EU monitoring mission in Armenia, preliminary promises were not fulfilled, the agreement was violated and the mandate was arbitrarily expanded. This mission was unable to achieve its stated goals of promoting regional stability and building confidence between Armenia and Azerbaijan. On the contrary, it is widely used as a propaganda tool against Azerbaijan, he noted.
Initiatives are being put forward that will further destabilize the situation, such as arming Armenia, including through the EU. Such initiatives undermine the authority of the EU as a “neutral mediator” and efforts to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan in general. Arming or otherwise using one partner against another can in no way correspond to the stated goals of the Eastern Partnership, Bayramov added.
