The visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog to Azerbaijan testifies to the expansion of political and diplomatic relations between the countries, US journalist, national security analyst, lawyer Irina Zuckerman told Report.
“Firstly, this is one of the highest-level visits since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Secondly, this is the culmination of growing diplomatic activity after the opening of the Azerbaijani embassy in Israel. There has been a visible trend of higher level and more frequent official visits and delegations,” she said.
According to the expert, the visit of the Israeli president to Azerbaijan symbolizes friendship, and not just political interests. Moreover, this visit testifies to the expansion of cooperation between the two states in various fields, including security and defense, and will not go unnoticed both in the South Caucasus and the Middle East.
“However, these ties are likely to expand in other directions with the now active new embassy in Tel Aviv, including areas such as: trade, education, regional coordination on various foreign policy issues and, of course, even closer cooperation in the field of energy - both oil and gas, and in renewable energy sources,” Zuckerman said, adding that one can also expect an increase in cultural activities, student and industry exchanges, and rapprochement in the humanitarian sphere.
