Expert: Iran unable to protect embassy of Azerbaijan to Tehran from attacks

Iran should review and improve security measures to prevent any attacks on embassies from happening in the future, Khalid Taimur Akram, expert at Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Future (PRCCSF), Islamabad, told Report.

“I am shocked to hear the reports of attacks on the diplomatic staff of Azerbaijan in Tehran. Unfortunately, the Iranian Government is unable to protect the embassy of Azerbaijan to Tehran from attacks. As per Vienna Convention, it is the moral right and responsibility of every country to ensure the safety of all diplomatic staff.

"The Government of Iran has a responsibility to ensure the safety of diplomatic staff, and personnel and secure the embassies from any attacks. The first step Iran should initiate an immediate investigation to identify the perpetrators and determine the extent of the damage. To address the situation effectively, the government of Iran should also coordinate with international partners and relevant authorities, exploring options for a diplomatic, economic, or military response, as deemed necessary. It is also important to provide support to any injured individuals and to families affected by the attack. Finally, the government should review and improve security measures to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

"I condemn the attack in the strongest terms, such acts of violence should not be tolerated,” he said.
