Azerbaijan and Armenia should decide on the final format of international mediation and focus on finding a way to resolve the remaining differences, US journalist, national security analyst, lawyer Irina Zuckerman told Report.
“In the end, Baku and Yerevan should decide on the format of the final mediation and focus on finding a way to resolve differences. They do not need to let the egos of other countries turn the negotiation process into endless discussions,” she said.
The expert noted that the most interesting thing about the latest meeting between the parties in Chisinau, mediated by the West, is that they followed a surge in the activity of the US diplomats, “as if the EU either feels the need to complement the US efforts, or is afraid to miss an opportunity because of Washington.”
“In any case, it’s still much better than Russia’s interference in this process,” Zuckerman said.
She added that it will be interesting to see if the EU, the US or France raise any objections to the apparent parallel path arising from the race in the process of normalizing relations between Baku and Yerevan: “It is clear that all interested parties hope capitalize on a political victory.”
