France’s all attempts to support Yerevan are absolutely hypocritical, Russian political scientist Yevgeny Mikhailov told Report.
“It can be assumed that this support is aimed at destabilizing the situation and discrediting Russia’s efforts as the main peacemaker in the South Caucasus,” he said.
The Russian expert believes that few people take into account French President Emmanuel Macron, and Paris is losing its influence.
“France has huge economic problems associated with anti-Russian sanctions, first of all. I would not particularly count on such an assistant,” Mikhailov added, expressing confidence that when the EU and the US “play enough geopolitical games,” Yerevan will be left alone with unresolved problems and will be forced to return and ask for help from Moscow for stabilizing the situation.
“Azerbaijan has long known that France is in no way interested in a peaceful South Caucasus. Moreover, all recent diplomatic efforts are under the full patronage of the US, which is primarily interested in weakening Russia’s influence in Armenia and the entire South Caucasus,” the expert believes.
Recently, important steps have been taken to normalize relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia within the Brussels format. On October 6, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with President of the Council of the European Union Charles Michel and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan in Prague with the participation of French President Emmanuel Macron.
