Euronews publishes material about 3rd Shusha Global Media Forum

The 3rd Annual Shusha Global Media Forum, attended by representatives from 52 countries, studied the impact of artificial intelligence on the media, emphasizing the importance of ethics, media literacy, and global cooperation, Report informs, citing the material on Euronews titled "Artificial Intelligence under the Spotlight at the 3rd Shusha Global Media Forum".

The widespread adoption of social media, digital platforms, and artificial intelligence (AI) will lead to serious consequences if we do not raise the level of AI literacy, said Karen Sutherland, Senior Lecturer at the School of Business and Creative Industries (UniSC). He added that if we don’t do this right now, we will feel the effects for decades to come.

The video material notes that the event brought together more than 140 delegates from 52 countries to discuss the growing influence of AI on media professionals. The discussions focused on issues such as disinformation, responsible AI development, and the need to enhance media literacy worldwide.

Alexandru Giboi, Secretary General of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), pointed out that AI is both a threat and an opportunity, as it represents a threat if used improperly, thus undermining public trust in the media, and an opportunity if used to improve newsroom operations and optimize certain processes.

Giboi also expressed hope that people will make more informed decisions based on accurate and reliable information.

The report also quotes Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, who stated that Azerbaijan is very proud to host many journalists and media specialists at the forum, enabling an exchange of ideas and recommendations.

Artificial intelligence is the reality of the world, Hikmat Hajiyev said, adding that people cannot fight AI, as it is technological progress.

Fighting AI means fighting innovation and technology, he said, adding that therefore, we must adapt, understand how we can effectively use it for the benefit of humanity, including professional journalism and the media.

Zipporah Mobane, Head of Communications and Advocacy at the African Union Development Agency, in turn stressed that if the media conveys information incorrectly to the public, it will create certain problems:

This means that governments will find it difficult to communicate their messages to society, companies will struggle to promote their products, and journalism will be under threat, Euronews noted.

It noted that the 3rd Annual Shusha Global Media Forum also demonstrated the growing role of Azerbaijan and the region as a whole in shaping global narratives, as well as its commitment to adapting to AI and strengthening media integrity.
