EU to assist Azerbaijan, Armenia in resolving humanitarian issues

The EU Council considers it necessary to eliminate all unresolved humanitarian issues between Azerbaijan and Armenia, EU Council President Charles Michel said after the second trilateral meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Report informs.

Charles Michel stressed the importance of the humanitarian gestures of both sides to build confidence and ensure peaceful coexistence. He noted the need for a complete and speedy resolution of all outstanding humanitarian issues, saying that the EU is ready to support this undertaking.

The EU will also continue to support confidence-building measures between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as humanitarian demining efforts, including by continuing to provide expert advice and increased financial assistance, as well as provide support to conflict-affected populations, deal with rehabilitation and reconstruction issues.

On April 6, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with President of the European Council Charles Michel and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan in Brussels. The meeting began at 9 p.m. (GMT+4) and lasted more than 4 hours.
