EU border mission in Armenia no longer necessary, says Azerbaijani presidential aide

The European Union's border mission operating near the Azerbaijan border from the Armenian side is no longer needed, said Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, Report informs.

In a statement to journalists, Hajiyev emphasized that the ongoing peace process and mutual understanding between the two states make the EU mission's presence unnecessary. "The time has come to end this mission's activities," he asserted.

Hajiyev highlighted that Azerbaijan and Armenia have agreed upon a framework for border delimitation, creating a foundation for the process to move forward bilaterally. He stressed that border delimitation is a purely bilateral matter.

Commenting on recent remarks by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the presidential aide pointed out contradictions and inaccuracies. "It is a fact that Armenia is pursuing a policy of militarization, which is being actively supported by several Western countries, particularly France. This support contributes to heightened tensions in the South Caucasus region," Hajiyev stated.
