Embassy of Belgium says it welcomes all initiatives aimed at easing tensions in Karabakh

The Embassy of Belgium in Azerbaijan welcomes all initiatives aimed at easing tensions in Karabakh, the embassy told Report, commenting on the humanistic decision of Azerbaijan to drop a criminal case against the Armenian football players detained at the Lachin border checkpoint.

"The embassy of Belgium in Baku welcomes all initiatives aimed at easing the tensions in Karabakh, alleviating the humanitarian situation on the ground and which contribute to a climate of mutual trust. It reiterates its support for the peace process launched between Armenia and Azerbaijan," the embassy said.

Armenian football players were earlier arrested at the Lachin border checkpoint for the violation of the State Flag of Azerbaijan. However, later Azerbaijan dropped the criminal case against them in an act of humanism.

The athletes were placed under administrative arrest for a period of 10 days. Once the court decision is executed, the athletes will be deported.
