Azerbaijan expects Armenia to eliminate the main obstacle to the normalization process by legally renouncing its territorial claims through constitutional amendments, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov said during a high-level meeting at the 56th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
According to Report, he noted that over the past year, Azerbaijan and Armenia have made significant progress in normalization through direct bilateral negotiations, including discussions on a bilateral peace agreement and the delimitation and demarcation of the state border.
"Post-war rehabilitation requires eliminating all negative consequences of the conflict, including holding accountable those suspected of committing crimes. This is not only Azerbaijan’s right but also an obligation under international law – to prosecute individuals suspected of war crimes. We have ensured that all procedural rights of the accused are upheld in accordance with international standards and will continue to do so. These efforts serve the cause of justice," Mammadov stated.
