Director-General of ILO: AI and digitalization offer broad opportunities for occupational safety

Artificial intelligence and digitalization offer wide opportunities in terms of improving occupational safety and increasing the productivity of risk monitoring, the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Gilbert Houngbo said in a video address to the participants of the conference titled "The Impact of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence on Jobs," dedicated to the World Day for Safety and Health at Work and the 120th anniversary of the first collective agreement, Report informs.

At the same time, Gilbert Houngbo drew attention to the serious concerns raised by these technologies.

"Without ethical application, tools such as worker monitoring and algorithmic management can threaten rights, personal freedom, and well-being. To prevent this and ensure that artificial intelligence is used in the world of work for beneficial purposes, a human-centered approach is needed. The ILO is ready to continue supporting you in creating a safe and healthy work environment. By using technological innovations, we can ensure the strengthening of an inclusive and decent work environment for all," said Houngbo.
