A delegation led by former President of Latvia (1999–2007) and Co-Chair of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, held several meetings in Kenya to discuss key initiatives, including preparations for the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) to be held in Baku in 2026, Report informs.
According to the Center, the primary goal of the visit was to explore future projects aimed at expanding cooperation with Kenya and enhancing the Center's engagement across Africa.
As part of the visit, the delegation met with former Prime Minister of Kenya and African Union High Representative for Infrastructure, Raila Odinga, as well as a group of Kenyan senators. The discussions focused on mutual interests and emphasized the importance of multilateral cooperation in the face of global challenges.
Additionally, a meeting was held with Michal Mlynár, Assistant Secretary-General of the UN and Deputy Executive Director of UN-Habitat, where participants discussed UN support for the upcoming World Urban Forum in Baku and explored opportunities for joint initiatives.
The delegation also visited the Azerbaijani Embassy in Kenya, where talks were held on strengthening cooperation with the Nizami Ganjavi Center and enhancing Kenya-Azerbaijan relations.
