Bonaire's youth face bleak future, says African Caribbean Association VP

The young generation on the island of Bonaire currently sees no prospects for development in their future, Rutshainy Jeanet Holder, Vice President of the African Caribbean Association, said at the conference "Bonaire’s Pathway from Baku through UN General Assembly to Self Determination", according to Report.

"The youth faces many difficulties in finding employment on Bonaire. We have to go abroad to get higher education, and when we return, our diplomas are not recognized," said Holder. She pointed out that despite official requirements for employers to recruit staff from the local population, since 2010, most jobs have been given to Europeans and other non-local residents immigrating to the island.

Holder emphasized that this further reduces the chances for Bonaire's youth to gain work experience and earn a decent living.
