BIG pledges unwavering support for oppressed peoples fighting colonialism

The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) has vowed to stand in solidarity with all peoples suffering under the yoke of colonialism in their struggle for independence, Abbas Abbasov, the Executive Director of BIG, told a conference titled "Bonaire's Pathway from Baku through UN General Assembly to Self-Determination," jointly organized by BIG and the Bonaire Movement for Human Rights and Change.

"We are here to discuss the political, economic, and cultural consequences of colonialism and the violation of human rights in colonized territories," Abbasov stated. "Our organization has published several reports dedicated to decolonization and has done significant work in informing the international community about the consequences of France's colonial policies in places like New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, and Corsica."

Abbasov emphasized that BIG's comprehensive and successful activities have consistently increased global awareness about the current situation in colonized territories. "We continue to raise awareness among the global community through international platforms like the United Nations. The right to self-determination of the esteemed people of Bonaire is fundamental," he asserted. "Our organization will continue to support the just struggle of colonized regions for their independence, despite any pressure."

The conference also featured a video presentation by BIG, providing an overview of their efforts in combating neocolonialism and allowing representatives of the Bonaire people to convey the devastating consequences of colonialism to the attendees.
