"The refusal of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, whose country signed the act of capitulation and lacks for political-diplomatic and military-political maneuvering, to meet on November 9 has further weakened her position at the negotiating table," MP Hikmat Babaoglu told Report.
According to him, Moscow's attitude to the involvement of other foreign countries or international organizations in the region is unequivocal and determined: "Russia does not want outside actors in the South Caucasus, but Pashinyan is seriously attempting to do so. Therefore, Putin's position is clear, and he wants communications to be opened."
He said that Western countries are now trying to drive Russia into a corner: "In this situation, Russia considers any form of Western interference in the post-Soviet space as a threat to its security. Russia does not accept any form of Western intervention in a region such as the South Caucasus, which is considered the gateway to the East. We witnessed how Moscow acted in the events in Georgia in 2008. The events in Ukraine can also be an example. Therefore, Moscow's position on Yerevan's rapprochement with the West is clear, and it will not differ from the model of Georgia and Ukraine."
"Azerbaijan has repeatedly demonstrated its determination and courage, and everyone knows that. Therefore, when meeting with the residents of Zangazur before the Sochi meeting, Pashinyan told them that Azerbaijan is determined to open the Zangazur corridor and will achieve this in any way. This opinion of the Armenian PM can be considered an acknowledgment that they have no other choice," he said.
According to the MP, Armenia's next provocation may be tantamount to suicide: "Pashinyan realizes that after each provocation, his position weakens inside and outside the country. This strengthens its rivals. To my mind, the best way out for Pashinyan in such a situation is to sign a peace agreement with Azerbaijan and agree to open the Zangazur corridor."
