Azerbaijan considers its upcoming chairmanship of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in 2026 as a historic opportunity to contribute to the solidarity and development of the Islamic world, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said during the 51st session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held in Istanbul.
According to Report, Bayramov congratulated brotherly Türkiye on its upcoming OIC chairmanship and expressed Azerbaijan's readiness to provide all possible support during that period.
In his speech, the Azerbaijani foreign minister also addressed the growing geopolitical tensions within the OIC region and the resulting political, economic, humanitarian, and environmental challenges. He emphasized the importance of cooperation among member states to address these threats.
The minister further discussed the regional situation in the South Caucasus in the post-conflict period.
According to Bayramov, the rising trend of Islamophobia worldwide is a matter of serious concern. He stated that Baku strongly condemns all forms and manifestations of Islamophobia and supports OIC-led initiatives to combat it.
"Azerbaijan fully supports the peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir conflict in line with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, as well as corresponding OIC resolutions," Bayramov added.
