Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Qu Dongyu, Report informs, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
Welcoming Qu Dongyu, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stressed that Azerbaijan has always prioritized cooperation with the UN and its specialized agencies. Noting that this year marks the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan's membership in the UN, the minister said that mutually beneficial cooperation has been implemented between Azerbaijan and the FAO during this period. He stressed that Azerbaijan pays special attention to food security.
Director-General Qu Dongyu expressed satisfaction with his visit to Azerbaijan and his fruitful meetings with the Azerbaijani officials. He stressed that Azerbaijan has great potential for developing food systems and agriculture. The director-general drew attention to the development of cooperation in digital transition in agriculture, the application of innovations, and farmers' training.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the UN official about the construction work carried out in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, including agriculture, work in the field of alternative energy and the concept of "smart village" applied in these areas. The minister stressed the excellent cooperation and exchange of experience with the UN specialized agencies in restoration and construction.
Director-General Qu Dongyu expressed interest in further strengthening the existing FAO-Azerbaijan cooperation.
The officials focused on agro-e-commerce or digital agriculture and food, research and development (R&D) projects, as well as digital development of rural areas, emphasizing the importance of continuing cooperation between Azerbaijan and the FAO in these areas.
