Since August 2021, the humanitarian consequences of the crisis in Afghanistan have threatened the lives of hundreds of thousands of innocent people, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said at a news conference in response to Report's question.
By the results of the 17th extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, in Islamabad, Pakistan, a number of important decisions were made to overcome the consequences of the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, he said.
It was decided to establish a Humanitarian Trust Fund under the auspices of the Islamic Development Bank, as well as establish a food security program for Afghanistan, and create two logistics centers, one of which will be in Pakistan.
In order to more effectively coordinate the efforts of the OIC to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan, the post of the OIC Special Representative for Afghanistan was set up, and a decision was made to bolster the OIC mission in Afghanistan in terms of economic and human resources.
According to Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan has always supported and helped Afghanistan.
"Azerbaijan was the first non-NATO country to provide assistance to this country and became one of the last countries, whose contingent left during the evacuation."
Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Foreign Minister Bisera Turkovic, for her turn, also expressed concern over the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, noting that the issue of gender equality is also a big problem in this country. She urged to ensure the rights of women in Afghanistan.
