"The USA is very interested in the progress of this process and the normalization of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations," Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, told Report.
According to the minister, at the tripartite meeting held in Washington with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, official Yerevan presented the answer to Azerbaijan's proposal regarding the basic principles of the peace treaty.
"As you know, the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia instructed the foreign ministers to start negotiations on the peace treaty to be signed between the two countries. In accordance with that task, the Azerbaijani side presented to the Armenian side on October 2 in Geneva a more elaborated version of the basic principles. Preliminary negotiations were conducted based on Azerbaijan's version, and Armenia asked for additional time to review that version. About a week ago, the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, offered to hold the next negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington on the basis of that peace agreement, and we had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia," Bayramov said.
According to him, at the meeting, the Armenian side submitted its answer and proposals regarding Azerbaijan's initial basic principles: "At the same time, opinions were exchanged in various directions based on the proposals made by the Armenian side. Of course, each side makes proposals and justifies them. There are differences of opinion and approaches between the parties. However, this is not an obstacle, and the process and these negotiations will continue. I think that after a certain period, the Azerbaijani side will prepare the next version and give it to the other side. There is no concrete idea about the next meeting yet. We think that this process should continue."
Bayramov highly appreciated the participation of the USA in the ongoing diplomatic negotiations between the two states: "A tripartite meeting with the Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Ararat Mirzoyan was held, and opinions were exchanged on a number of issues and directions. The Secretary of State shared his views on the progress of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the direction of signing a peace treaty and the achievement of good results. He said that the USA is very interested in the progress of this process and the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. I would like to take this opportunity to note that the meeting and the condition were organized at a very high level. During the meeting, I expressed my thanks to the US Secretary of State and his team."
