An Iranian court has sentenced Azerbaijani citizen Farid Safarli to two years in prison, Safarli's mother Dilara Asgarova told Report.
The woman noted that they are going to appeal the verdict.
Azerbaijani citizen Safarli, 26, who lived in Germany disappeared in Iran in February of this year. Attempts to locate his whereabouts failed. And only after numerous appeals, the Iranian side reported that Safarli had been arrested, and a criminal case had been initiated against him.
During a July 19 court hearing in Iran, the charge of "espionage" brought against Farid Safarli was replaced with the charge of "attempted espionage."
