The use of the name 'Shushi' for 'Shusha' in Iran is not welcomed among the peoples of both countries, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Iran Ali Alizada said in an interview with IRIB, commenting on giving the name 'Shushi' to a street in Iran.
"This situation caused a negative reaction from both peoples. We must take into account each other's opinions on sensitive issues," the ambassador said.
Last November, Tehran mayor's office used distorted forms of the names of Azerbaijani cities for several streets in the city (Badikyuba instead of Baku, Shushi instead of Shusha). To oppose this, Azerbaijanis living in Iran erased the corresponding street signs and wrote "Azerbaijan" on them.
The street names are still not corrected.
