During his visit to Peru, Azerbaijani ambassador to Mexico Mammad Talibov was interviewed by the newspaper "Expreso."
Azerbaijani Embassy in Mexico told Report that informing about his visit to Lima, capital of Peru, to attend the diplomatic meeting between the newly-elected President Pedro Castillo and accredited diplomatic corps, the ambassador conveyed Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's congratulations to the head of state and the Peruvian people on the victory in elections and 200th anniversary of independence of Peru. According to him, Azerbaijan is interested in further expanding relations with Peru in all areas. During a brief conversation with the President of Peru at the meeting, the head of state also stressed the importance of relations between his country and Azerbaijan.
Talking about the relations between Azerbaijan and Peru, they spoke about the cooperation between the two countries both bilaterally and within international organizations, noting the existence of effective collaboration within the UN and the Non-Aligned Movement. In connection with the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, it was stressed that Peru had always supported international law, Azerbaijan's sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and this was important for our country.
At the same time, they noted the activity in inter-parliamentary relations and expressed expectations for the continuation of joint activities in the energy sector, transport, trade, science, education, youth, and other areas of mutual interest.
During the interview, the ambassador informed about the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the results of the 44-day war, emphasizing the importance for the parties to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of each other in order to strengthen the peace in the region. According to him, despite the statement of the President of Azerbaijan that our country is ready to sign a peace agreement with Armenia, the provocative steps of the neighboring country, the continuation of "revanchist" and aggressive rhetoric is regrettable and an obstacle to peace and security.
The ambassador also spoke about the economic development achieved by our country since independence as a result of the far-sighted policy pursued by the country's leadership. He gave information about the program "Let's Convert Black Gold Into Human Gold" initiated and successfully implemented by the President of Azerbaijan, the transformation of oil revenues into intellectual capital, development in tourism, information technology, and other areas of the non-oil sector, as well as global international energy and transport projects successfully implemented in the region at the initiative and under the leadership of Azerbaijan.
Giving information about the history of Azerbaijan, he noted in the interview that our country was the first democratic republic in the East, as well as one of the first countries in the world to give women the right to vote. It was noted that our country pursues an active foreign policy in modern times, is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, and currently chairs the Non-Aligned Movement, and it has a high reputation in the international arena.
He also spoke about Azerbaijan's contribution to the international fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and the initiative of the Azerbaijani President in this regard as chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement.
