Azerbaijan's hopes from Brussels meeting came true - OPINION

Azerbaijan's hopes from the Brussels meeting came true, political commentator Gabil Huseynli told Report.

According to him, the European Union is an institution that approaches issues more objectively and sincerely wants the successful implementation of the peacemaking process between the parties:

"Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Department of Foreign Policy of the Presidential Administration, Hikmat Hajiyev, during his speech at the international conference in Shusha, confirmed this thesis: 'Azerbaijan respects the efforts of the European Union and believes that their efforts can lead to a strong and sustainable peace.' That is, our hopes were in this direction before the Brussels meeting, and they were justified."

Gabil Huseynli said that the European Union has shown that the peacemaking process has started and wants to bring it to a logical end.

"It was agreed to establish a working group to prepare a peace agreement between the two countries. At the same time, there was a meeting of working groups in Moscow regarding border delimitation and demarcation, and the meeting was constructive. Moreover, the next meeting of the working group is planned to be held in November. It seems that the implementation of a coordinated and mutual political will of the parties regarding the creation of a strong and sustainable peace in the region has begun. The European Union plays the role of the first violin in the said process. Personally, the efforts of Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, in this direction should be evaluated positively. It seems that hopes for the implementation of the next stages of the peacemaking process have grown. The fact that the President of Azerbaijan conducted the negotiation process in Brussels with sufficient confidence and at a high intellectual level and that this process was also appreciated by the European Union is one of the noteworthy points. And Armenia obediently agreed to fulfill all the issues."

The political scientist believes Azerbaijan persistently implements measures to retain the territorial integrity confirmed by international legal norms:

"We witnessed that it was also recognized by the European Union. At the meeting, the issue of the OSCE Minsk group, which made the process more difficult and could bring additional nuances to it, and the issue of the Armenian community of 15,000-16,000 people living in our territories was not brought up. Nowhere in the world is the issue of granting status to such a small number of communities is discussed. The inability of the Armenian lobby to intervene in the ongoing processes made it possible for it to be carried out in a normal way. In my opinion, the results of the meeting can be considered successful. Because positive and constructive relations have been started. In November, we can witness new developments in border delimitation and demarcation, as well as in the creation of a working group from both sides regarding the major peace agreement, which is considered the main document of the peacemaking process."
