At the international conference on the restoration of Ukraine held in London this year, Azerbaijan also undertook obligations. In accordance with this commitment, Azerbaijan is already starting to participate in the restoration of social facilities destroyed in the past battles in the city of Irpin, Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine.
Report's Eastern European Bureau prepared a reportage from the city of Irpin.
Oleksandr Markushin, the mayor of Irpin city, told Report that educational institutions and kindergartens, including the school named after Academician Zarifa Aliyeva, were destroyed during military operations in the city:
"I applied to the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Ukraine, to the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR). The school was renovated in a short time. From September 1 of last year, our children started studying in this school again. At this point, I would like to mention that this is the biggest school in Irpin. After some time, the city started experiencing frequent power outages. The SOCAR company helped us and provided this school with a generator. Of course, I would like to thank the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the Embassy of Azerbaijan, and the SOCAR company. This year, SOCAR will provide the school's heating system. The work will be completed by September 1. It is gratifying that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, said at the conference held in London that his country will help Ukraine in reconstruction work. The first works in this regard will be carried out in the city of Irpen. We showed the buildings to be restored to Seymur Mardaliyev, the ambassador of Azerbaijan to Ukraine, and presented related projects."
Olga Pokhlova, a resident of the city, thanked Azerbaijan for the help on behalf of the residents of Irpin: "Of course, if Ukraine had the opportunity, it would provide comprehensive assistance to Azerbaijan, because we are brother countries and we must help each other. We are friendly nations."
Yuliya Kozi, another resident of Irpin, said that this initiative of Azerbaijan makes them proud: "We would appreciate any help because the city of Irpin has been seriously destroyed and damaged. Now the city is undergoing restoration works. However, there is still work to be done and huge funds are needed to restore the city."
