Azerbaijan has fully paid its membership fee to the UN budget for 2024, the US bureau of Report informs.
Azerbaijan, just like last year, was among the first states to pay the membership fee to the organization.
Today, 75 member states, along with Azerbaijan, have fully paid their membership fees, which form the UN budget.
The size of the membership fee is determined on the basis of several criteria, one of which is the solvency of the country.
Funds are used primarily to cover the administrative costs of the UN central bodies - the General Assembly, special committees and the secretariat; a significant part of the amount is spent on peacekeeping missions.
Azerbaijan was elected a member of the organization on March 2, 1992, by a resolution adopted at the 46th session of the UN General Assembly. On this day, the national flag of Azerbaijan was raised in front of the UN headquarters in New York, and on May 6, Azerbaijan’s permanent representation at the organization began operating.
