The Islamic Eight (D-8), whose population comprises 60 percent of the world's Muslims, plays an important role in Islamic solidarity, Azerbaijan's Prime Minister Ali Asadov said at the 11th Summit of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation.
According to him, at a time of rising Islamophobia, extremism, and radicalism in the world, it is important to unite efforts within the organization to strengthen Islamic solidarity.
"Azerbaijan has historically played the role of a bridge between East and West and has been one of the cultural, religious, and civilizational centers of the Islamic world. Our country has made a great contribution to the formation of multiculturalism, an atmosphere of tolerance, establishment of intercultural dialogue, and promotion of Islamic values in the world," noted the prime minister.
Asadov emphasized the importance of restoring peace and stability in Syria following the fall of the Assad regime and the end of civil confrontation.
"Azerbaijan reaffirms its support for Syria's territorial integrity and sovereignty. We hope that all issues will be resolved in accordance with the will of the Syrian people and through internal political dialogue.
Azerbaijan will spare no effort in overcoming the humanitarian problems faced by the Syrian people. We continue close contacts with brotherly Türkiye to take practical steps in this direction," said Asadov.
