Defender: Opponent could be defeated through perseverance

All rivals are serious and ahead of Azerbaijan in the rankings, Azerbaijani national team footballer Shahriyar Rahimov told Report, commenting on the UEFA Nations League draw.

“We must do everything possible to become the winner of the group,” Rahimov said.

The 31-year-old defender noted that an opponent could be defeated through perseverance and zeal.

“We can achieve something if we fully concentrate on the game and give it our full strength. There is no clear favorite in our group, which is very difficult and interesting. Games won’t be easy with Luxembourg. No one should think that we will definitely defeat Luxembourg. What matters is to be responsible,” Rahimov said.

The Azerbaijani defender also touched upon the appointment of a head coach to the team.

“Friendly matches are scheduled for this month. Probably, the appointment will occur until then,” he said.

According to the draw, the Azerbaijani team is the first group of League 1 along with the teams from Cyprus, Luxembourg, and Montenegro.
