Armenian footballer asks England for asylum to avoid military service

Baku. 6 February. REPORT.AZ/ Armenian footballer Ovik Nersisyan has requested political asylum in England to avoid military service.

Report informs citing the shropshirestar.com, 23-year-old defender who was wearing the uniform of Whitchurch Alport FC in England's North-West League is facing death threat.

Two years ago, Nersisyan was in search in Armenia: "If I come back, they will arrest me. Then I will be taken to military service and my life will be in danger. Two years ago, military service was granted a respite. Now, they do not care about the fact that I'm a football player. Government sends everyone to fight. I’ve read in the Azerbaijani media outlets that Armenian soldiers die every day. I feel safe in Shropshire. I hope the court will make a good decision”.

Notably, Whitchurch Alport FC has been hired a lawyer for Ovik Nersisyan. Also petition was announced for him to stay in England. The weekly document, signed by a thousand people, will be sent to the British Home Office. The court will announce the final decision on February 19. Nersisyan was wearing the uniform of Pyunik FC in his homeland earlier.
