Baku. 6 January. REPORT.AZ/ The 2016 African player of the year has been identified.
Report informs, this is Leicester player Algerian Riyad Mahrez.
Mahrez polled 361 votes of head coaches of African national teams and federation officials. Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ranked second with 313 points. The award ceremony was held in Nigerian capital Abuja.
Cameroonian Samuel Eto'o and Ivory Coast's Yaya Toure mostly awarded this prize - 4 times.
Notably, Riyad Mahrez was selected the best player of the last year by English Professional Footballers' Association.
