Oxfam: World adds 1 billionaire every other day

Baku. 22 January. REPORT.AZ/ Total wealth of billionaires increased by $US762 billion over the 12 months.

Report informs referring to RBC, international organization Oxfam released statement ahead of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

According to the statement, the rich which makes 1% of the world’s population controls 82% of the world’s wealth. The 3.7 billion people saw no increase in their wealth in 2017. Billionaire wealth has risen by an annual average of 13 percent.

The developer of the report noted that the wealth was, in the first place, due to the deterioration of the working conditions of the employees. Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of Oxfam International said: “The billionaire boom is not a sign of a thriving economy but a symptom of a failing economic system".

According to Oxfam, the richest eight people on the planet have net wealth of $426 billion equivalent to 3.6 bln world population's wealth — Bill Gates ($75 billion); Amancio Ortega ($67 billion); Warren Buffett ($60.8 billion); Carlos Slim ($50 billion); Jeff Bezos ($45.2 billion); Mark Zuckerberg ($44.6 billion); Larry Ellison ($43.6 billion); and Michael Bloomberg ($40 billion).

Oxfam states there are now 2,043 dollar billionaires worldwide and world adds 1 billionaire every other day.
