Baku. 2 November. REPORT.AZ/ The Bank of England announced that the new £50 note will feature prominent British scientist Stephen Hawking, Report informs citing BBC.
"Our banknotes are an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of UK society and highlight the contributions of its greatest citizens," Bank's governor, Mark Carney said.
Prof Stephen Hawking has to be one of the frontrunners. Another widely mentioned name is that of wartime codebreaker and computing pioneer Alan Turing.
The Bank of England is to develop and approve the design of the new banknote, the date of entry into which remains unknown.
