Currently, mobile payments account for up to 8% of total payments in Azerbaijan, said Avshar Gurdal, the new CEO of the international payment company Mastercard for Azerbaijan and Turkiye, Report informs.
"We expect that next year this figure will exceed 40%,” he said.
“Currently, there are 12 million plastic cards in Azerbaijan, of which about 80% are contactless. As in the rest of the world, e-commerce is developing in Azerbaijan. The share of payments via cards is about 20% of the total transaction volume. In the world, this figure is about 38%. But we want this indicator to exceed the 50% mark. E-commerce plays an important role. MasterCard will continue to support e-commerce,” Gurdal said.
