Several banks in Kazakhstan are experiencing a shortage of US dollars in cash, a source in banking circles, Report informs, citing Interfax-Kazakhstan.
"There is a shortage of cash dollars in Kazakhstan. There are no cash dollars in most banks. This is due to an increase in the delivery time for cash currency to Kazakhstan from other countries. Scheduled flights also become longer overflying Ukraine and Russia," the agency's interlocutor said on Friday.
According to the information, the cash shortage is a "temporary phenomenon." The Central Bank of Kazakhstan and private banks are now restructuring the delivery of cash dollars to speed up the time of their delivery from abroad.
The National Bank of Kazakhstan is yet to comment on the situation.
