Fadia Saadah: Investments in human capital in Azerbaijan will increase by 1.7%

Investments in human capital in Azerbaijan may increase by an average of 1.7% during 2024-2050, Fadia Saadah, Human Development Director for Europe and Central Asia Region of the World Bank, told journalists.

She believes that the development of an inclusive dynamic society in Azerbaijan will be thanks to human capital:

"The Human Capital Index in Azerbaijan increased from 50% to 58% in 2010-2020. This growth occurred due to changes in the field of education, health, and social protection."

According to her, Azerbaijan has made great progress in recent years.

The regional director noted that 32% of girls in Azerbaijan neither study nor work: "We have an employment support project with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population in this field. We hope to reduce this percentage thanks to the implemented projects."

Saadah said that citizens in Azerbaijan bear 69% of hospital payments at their own expense:

"This creates certain difficulties for people with low financial status. Compared to middle-income countries, this percentage is very high in Azerbaijan."
