Canada freezes assets of Russians for $123M

Since the outbreak of hostilities by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, Canadian authorities have frozen Russian assets worth $123 million as part of the sanctions. Bank transactions worth $289 million were also blocked, Report informs referring to the Canadian media.

Canada has previously imposed several packages of sanctions against Russia in response to the fighting in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, gymnast Alina Kabaeva, head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina and many other Russian politicians and businessmen fell under personal sanctions in Canada.

Canada also imposed sanctions against Russian firms and restrictions on exports to Russia. It introduced the last package of sanctions on June 8, imposing restrictions on the oil, gas and chemical industries of the Russian Federation.
