The Coca-Cola Company, one of the major sponsors of the upcoming Paris Olympics, has found itself in hot water for its decision to use single-use plastic bottles during the event. This move directly contradicts the French authorities' commitment to hosting a plastic-free Olympics in 2024.
According to Report, which cites the European edition of Politico, Coca-Cola that holds exclusive rights to sell beverages at the Olympics plans to distribute approximately 6.4 million portions of its drinks in plastic bottles. This revelation comes as a surprise, given Paris's pledge to eliminate single-use plastic tableware from the Olympic Games entirely.
"We are doing everything we can," Coca-Cola told the publication, citing logistical difficulties that prevented them from using drinking machines and reusable glass cups throughout the event.
However, Politico highlights the apparent double standards, as visitors are prohibited from bringing single-use plastic tableware to both the Olympics and Paralympics.
