The rapid introduction of digital technologies in the energy sector will save 6.5 PVT / hour (650 million megawatts) of electricity by 2040, which is up twofold from the current total consumption of countries outside the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Swiss MDPI magazine said after conducting research and surveys, Report informs.

According to MDPI, the increase in the use of the Internet of Things (IoT), touch and thermostatic appliances reduces both the use of electricity in the home and prevents accidents.

An MDPI survey in Russia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland and Slovakia found that most people, 43% of whom are between 36-55 years old, were interested in using "smart" appliances. The use of digital technology will also allow energy companies to segment their customers.

"Smart" offices created using technological innovations are more profitable and economical than others. It is estimated that such offices save at least 10% of annual energy costs and 40% of greenhouse gas emissions.

Digitalization allows for greater integration of solar and wind energy sources into the overall grid and increases their share in the energy market.

Many digital technologies, such as smart home systems, reduce the energy generation needed to produce goods and services in all areas of our lives. In recent years, for example, the International Energy Agency (IEA) launched an interagency initiative to investigate the potential impact of digitalization on energy efficiency and its impact on policymakers.

The IEA believes that the energy supply sector will benefit from increased productivity and efficiency, as well as improved safety for workers.

MDPI also notes that this technological development has increased the threats related to cybersecurity. According to the magazine, such threats endanger large servers and DATA centers, which store large amounts of data.
