Tokayev: People will make final decision on NPP construction in Kazakhstan

A referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) will be held in Kazakhstan this fall, President of the country Kasim-Jomart Tokayev said at the awarding ceremony of mass media workers, Report informs.

“Economic development is impossible without a stable energy supply. That's why I gave instructions on studying the construction of a nuclear power plant. Currently, there are broad discussions and different opinions are voiced. Mass media should also actively participate in this process,” he stressed.

Tokayev noted that there are great opportunities for the development of nuclear energy in the country: “It is important to use them correctly and efficiently. The people will make the final decision on this issue. The referendum will be held this fall. The exact date will be determined by the government.”
