Erdoğan decides to implement Nakhchivan-Igdir gas pipeline

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced measures to implement the Nakhchivan-Igdir gas pipeline project.

Report informs that the text of the president's decision has been published in Turkey's Resmi Gazete.

On December 15, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey inked a Memorandum of Understanding on Natural Gas Supply to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on December 15. The document was signed by Energy Minister of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov and Energy and Natural Resources Minister of Turkey Fatih Dönmez.

The document provides a basis for the gas supply through the pipeline from Turkey to Nakhchivan. It guarantees the cooperation between SOCAR and BOTAS in technical, commercial, administrative, legal, and other issues related to the supply of natural gas. The gas delivery from Turkey to Nakhchivan will ensure diversification and increased reliability of energy security. By receiving support from both Iran and Turkey, Nakhchivan will fully meet its growing demand.

The new 85-kilometer-long gas pipeline will run from Igdir in Turkey's eastern Anatolia to Sederek in western Azerbaijan, with an annual capacity of 500 million cubic meters (mcm) and 1.5 mcm daily.
